Tomorrow will mark the tenth day of our snowmageddon vacation here in Fairfax. No school, no after-school classes, no metro, no commute. The Washington Post claimed the other day that the snowday marathon was seriously testing area parents' ability to survive the presence of their own children. As to our own story, we are ready to order another ten days of this snowed-in vacation at home. O.k., Andras did have to work ("work") from home, but still, we've had the time of our life this week.

Reggel kilenc-tízig húztuk a lóbőrt. Utána villásreggeliztünk, ilyesmiket:
We slept until nine or ten every morning. Then we had a hearty brunch, like this:

Rengeteget havaztunk! Sokat lapátoltunk, és még többet játszottunk. Végre felépült a saját iglunk, amiről a gyerekek évek óta álmodoznak:
We loved the snow! There was a lot of shoveling, but there was even more playing. The kids finally built the igloo they had been dreaming about for years:

Nóra minden napra sütött nekünk valami édes finomságot. A "Hölgycsók" volt az egyik kedvencünk:
Nora whipped up some yummy treats for us every day. Her "Ladies' Kisses" were among our favorites:

Mindenki naphosszat élvezhette a saját kis kuckóját. Anna például a művészsarkát:
Everybody enjoyed endless hours in their own little nook of the house. Here, Anna in the 'Artist's Corner':

Ide:
We had late-night suppers after dinner every day, followed by a movie night until 1am, just to make sure we would all sleep in the next morning.

Today we finally decided it was time to pull our act together. Tomorrow we are going to work (out). Destination:

Frau Holle, Please!

Emlékeztek Holle Anyóra a Grimm-mesekönyvből?

Remember the Brothers Grimm story of Mother Holle? That every day, her bed would have to be shaken up until feathers flew from it, and that is why snow falls on Earth?

Well, dear, dear Mother Holle! Thank you for your generosity; on top of the two and a half feet of snow we already had, last night we received another six or so inches, and even now, snow is still falling! Maybe if we ask nicely, you'll give us a little break with the bed shaking. Not to say that we aren't enjoying ourselves with snowball fights, ski trips, and snow men, it's just that, after all, too much of a good thing is still too much!

A hó napos oldala -- The Bright Side of the Snow

Azért egy kis napsütés mindjárt más színt ad a 60 centi friss hónak, ami az előző két napon ránkszakadt:
It only takes a little sunshine to put two feet of fresh snow in a brand new light:

Hórekord -- Historic Blizzard of 2010

Ha a ház bejárata így néz ki
So, if the front door looks like this

és a hátsó ajtó így
and the back door is like this

Lilike a hátsó utat találta járhatóbbnak:
then which way would you get out of the house?

Lili tried her luck with the back door.

Of course, even if we make it out of the house and we dig the car out,

de nincs utca!
we can't get far, because there's no street!
